Because the population of the City of Lomita and many of our surrounding communities is less than 25,000, the County Department of Public Health had previously combined communities in our area together to report the number of confirmed cases. Based on feedback received from many jurisdictions, including the City of Lomita requesting more specificity and clarity in reporting, on March 27th, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health started reporting the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 by City jurisdiction rather than by combined region. The LA County COVID-19 Dashboard (Available Here) and Case Reporting Page currently lists the City of Lomita with “- -” and notes at the bottom of the table that ” – – Means that case numbers are suppressed (between 1 and 4 cases in communities <25,000 people).” This listing method is intended to help protect the medical privacy of those who may be suffering from COVID-19. Regardless of how many cases are confirmed within any given area, the best advice is still to assume that the virus is in EVERY part of the County and act accordingly.
